Caught me out before too - I'd have thought the aluminium roof would make a good groundplane, seeing a lot of homebase antennas are made out of the stuff.

ok ive run an earth from the aireal mount to the negative of the batery.
my swr is good on the mid channels
im picking up people well even heared some europeans well they could be in the uk

when i talk with the talk back buton on all i get is feed back
ive tried getting on the side
i have tried 2 rigs
a superstar 3900 eft
a cobra 148dx
no body will repond so i guess that something is wrong

any more suggestions please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

dont use the talk back button think its just for checking your audio into headphones

is a ground lead to the negative of the batery ok

i will give the set up a good try today

Roughly where is your location? - perhaps someone on here can give you a shout.

Uk 19 and 27.555 are the only busy channels around here - the EU block is pretty flat, although channel 25 and 31 are used in some parts of the UK for nets.

im in kent near brands hatch.
ive been listening to people hitting me at 9s and 10s but when i break on the side i get no responce, its making me parinoid that the rig and set up isnt working
the swr is hardley moving on the mid channels

its all just a little frustrating

Too far from me in Somerset I'm afraid, but perhaps someone will come forward near you to help.

Failing that, if you've two radios you could lash-up a temporary setup with a cheap antenna and a friend, and try it out that way between you.

i wont get a chance now till the week end so will remove the earth lead and give it another bash.
