I,v put a post on the Astra Sport Owners Club forum under chit chat regarding using cb radio on modded cars, seems they use hand held units and mobile phones.

someone came up with the question about using cb radios is the same law as using mobiles and is reply was cb radio is exempt from this, is this true anyone ?

Yes, CB radios and PMR446 are exempt from the mobile phone penalties (3 points and £60 fine).

HOWEVER...

Don't rub it in the face of the officer pulling you over or he will just charge you with 'driving without due care and attention'. This is hard to disprove and the word of the officer is usually taken as gospel.

I'm trying to keep CB alive by getting my son and his mates cheap cb radio's off ebay so that they can chat to each other a mile or so away. Even if it's only when it's raining it'll hopefully keep the cb flame burning. If we don't use it, we'll lose it sooner or later. It'll be a sad day if that happens.. made hundreds of friends, still see some of them around 25 years on! I have got about a dozen boxed legal cb's, so I hope they don't ban cb as I'll never be able to use the bloomin' things!

they have about as mutch chance of getting rid of cb as they do of sorting out the asylum seekers plus cb's are smaller

Can,t see it being banned, i hope not as i,m on the sick at the moment long term with two slipped discs and its my only enjoyment at the moment, not that i,d give it up if i get better as the rig will go back in the car.
like andy said he has customers in all the time buying, it,ll pick up now the licence has gone,we just need to spread the word, probably print leaflets off and take them to car shows and put them under the wipers =D>

should be like colin and never wake up he still thinks he can rule the world with his fishing rod

we all have good ideas that just dont see the light of day like cbers with 200 watts and perfect antenna or a cap with a light built in for reading during the dark hours

Unfortunately the modded car scene don't like mag mounts and the like stuck to their paintwork so we just use mobile phones now, however I'm still a homebase DX'er waiting for the skip to rise on the 11m band, there's quite a few car shows held yearly at Billing, I'll be there in July
