Thieving Swine

On the way to work today (south brum from north brum where I live) and I couldn't get a signal full stop on the old Fidelity CB I'm testing for a friend... Not being to savvy with CB's as yet I decided it was down to the weather or the rig not working as well as the day before... I was a little late and dashed into the workshop without another thought...

A little later I decided to take a quick look at my rear wiper (discovery wiper springs can be useless sometimes) and noticed my CB ariel cable... It was cut  I looked up to find no Orbitor or Stainless Steel Gutter Mount.... Now both of these were bought by a friend recently (last couple of weeks) from Thunderpole's online store, as a present... I'd re-secured the gutter mount two days ago after adjusting its position and cleaning some crud from underneath it... It was screwed down VERY tight... :!:

Somebody must have turned up with a set of tools and eagle eyes. The Orbitor was black and the disco was parked on my rather dull and poorly lit drive... Unless someone local has been eying it up... Mind you as my partner pointed out... we've had a spat of vehicle crime lately on both my drive and my neighbors... My partner nearly lost her car but they couldn't break the steering lock and my neighbor had his number plates stolen in the last 12 months... Not to mention a few other minor problems down our road... :?

The police have been and I've made a statement and made them aware that this seems to be an ongoing problem in our area... We live in a fairly decent area not 5 mins from the local police station so its rather annoying to say the least...

So to cut a long and slightly dull story short (its narked me so I had to tell someone who'd sympathise a bit... :P ) Has anyone got any suggestions as to what combination of twig and mount might stop the thieving sods out there...

I forgot to mention....

I offroad/greenlane and the plan was to use the CB mainly for that reason... Hence a magmount will be pointless... Like the idea of a Wilson but I'd probably have to go with a Sirio or the like... Apparently from what I've read the Hi-Power Sirio range will stand up to a little greenlaning... :?:

Question is how easy are they to remove :?:

Try re-fitting a gutter mount, and knocking small ball-bearings into the hexagonal bolts so they cannot undo them. You can then use a quick-release 3/8" mount added to the bottom of a spring-bottomed aerial. It takes literally 2 seconds to take off and put on (sometimes people can't be bothered to take of aerials if they take longer than that!), and will take a fair bit of abuse if you buy the heavy-duty version of the quick-release mount. You can put a little thread-lock solution on the threads to help stop the bolts working loose, but don't get it on any bits that require an earth or good connection.

Hope that helps... and I'll vote now for castration of the offenders if found :)

Cheers Sandman but I don't completely understand what you mean by 'knock small bearings in' :?: It might just be because I've not long got up mind... :P

Sounds like a plan and it probably won't surprise you (because its sods law I guess) that I have a quick release waiting for me in the local postal depo.... Of course it arrived when I was at work and 12 hours too late anyway

The real plan was to have a Sirio Hi Power 4k fitted permanently and removed and the line switched to an Orbitor on a quick release... But obviously if they're even after the mounts then I have an issue... :(

quick releases tend to open up after a while best bet would be so239 mount on a gutter mount then you could use eithe a sirio or wilson and takeit off at night or when you leave the car

So just how easy would the Sirio or Wilson be to remove from a gutter mount :?: :?:

But it still leaves me with a (very expensive if I have to keep replacing the darn things) gutter mount available to the light fingered... :?

 You mean the other type of gutter mount to the one I had... I've not seen one up close and personal but I guess they have Alan key bolts instead of set screws... :?:

your other option is to mount via the roof bars if you have them u can bolt to that and either lock tight the mount n remove just the antenna leaving the mount or remove the lot and leave a hole in a replaceable roof bar

Nice idea... but no roof bars I'm afraid...
