I would say no more than abaout 3km at best. So the question I would like to know is how far is the shop from home.

ok cheers :)
the shop isnt far from home only 10 minute walk but was thinking about when i was mobile upto 3 or 4 miles in built up town area.
Not always going to be in a car so thought of the handy walkie talkies :)

yes i could put a base at the shop, but i was thinking when i was out in the car, something to keep in pocket as i go round customers house's to look at items for sale, then if i get asked if i want tea :) i wouldnt have to worry about rushing off to the car. lol

Intek H-520 looks like the way a head. As said before the PMR radios only have a short rang 2-4km at best, if your in a built up area that could be on the lower end of the range scale. Do you have any friends that have a set of PMR radios that you could test to see if the range is okay to fit your needs. As I know not everyone has £100+ to splash out on radio equipment.
