I'm hoping for a CB revival! CB is potentially a very useful community resource. The fact that so many teens are using PMR suggests a desire for some form of 'free' wireless communication. We all need to spread the word about CB. If you've got a young relative, buy a rig for them and maybe they'll catch the bug!
Sounds like a good idea. Problem being my lot would just swear down it
One or two are slightly interested but...... you know what they're like.
Not helped by the total lack of activity round here. In the last three weeks all I've heard was some road menders swearing. Really not convinced my rig works but there you go
Yes I do have a 'thing' about swearing on CB

you would be very surprised at the amount of truckers who have a cb switched on and won't speak if you ask them for anything ie police speed checks/roadworks/traffice jams.
yet if you have a pretend huff and say something like 'oh well take it easy watch out for vosa in the next layby', they suddenly spring to response.
total knobs in my opinion and the further south you get the worse the problem is. if you regularly drive cumbria/scotland you get a lot more positive comms.
i.e run up to inverness on the a9 on channel 19 ask nearly any driver and you will get a reply.
i have now given up with cb when i get to within 25 miles of lymm because all you get is homebase users drowning you out or a load of abuse.
sorry to southerners and homebase users but this is just my opinion.

In my opinion if some the teens were given a chance to have their own station ie bedroom etc it would give them a sense of responsibility and a nice hoobie.

The lack of activity here is a double edged sword. I can take it to the kids ands say 'Hay look. 40 channels to play with and all to ourselves!' That might get some interest. Then on the other side I don't know if my rig works so The yoofs go out buy rigs and find the airwave jammed solid. Then we see how fast I can run........

I live near to a super (hyper?) market and the trucks that make deliveries use CB REGULARLY. I also regulalrly hear snatches of conversation as the trucks crawl past on the M2/M20 towards/away from Dover/London. We also have a lively (erm, yeah that description will do!
) local community of homebase users. So there is activity on the channels, just depends where you are.
The trick is not to come to CB expecting it to give you something. You need to figure out your own uses for CB (preferably something that allows you to share the channels with others users though, if you don't mind!
) That's why the 4x4 crowd, the truckers, motorhomes, (certain) car clubs and other groups still use it.

The number of trucks I see with antenna suggest it's still used but I don't hear anything (Ch19). I do sweep the channels when I'm not moving but still hear nothing. Occasional bout of swearing but that's once in 14 days now. Drove down to Plymouth last Thursday and heard nothing. Really am getting suss of my rig.
