I just bought a Thunderpole Orbitor HD with 7" Magmount. I'm using an old Midland 38. Any advice? Do you think this will get good reception with the antenna on the caravan roof?

You don't say exactly what the caravan is, are you fitting to a trailed caravan for static use, or camper / motorhome?
Again there is so many types and bodystyles that some things will work and some won't. It will depend on the base vehicle and type of conversion you have, and the materials it's constructed from.
