Hi All,

Just spoke to Colin @ Thunderpole. They have the new Intek 495 in stock and it will be on their web site within a week or so. Forgot to ask the price

But I think it can be modded to give 20w out the back, will have to wait and see.

If anyone gets one, would be interested to know what you think of it.

ATB, Jon.

I have both of these 495-795 Power and they are excellent indeed. Bot receive and transmit. When modified the power on mine here were both at around 14watts, and not any heat from the heatsink. Does all that you want from a radio, and mine are stronger on AM audio than FM.

They are well made, and are quite ok.

Before people critisize like before:

Tests were made on rhodes and schwarz and a Schlomberger blok. Tests were written based on 10 points.

The CTSS is a little fiddly as done via the F on the more expensive one, but works well and has been tested upto 40km and was fine so far

Thanks for the words Fatfinger, these are nice ones i must say. I found the ASC worked well, the s-meter was calibrated well and the general performance was really nice indeed. As i told before, i had one that was dog eared although new this was infact a demo unit and was replaced.

And of the M795 i have unit number 000001 here :)

Hiya Simon,

Whats the difference between the two radio's you mention? I imagine the 495 is a bit like the current 490 and the 795 is similar to the 790 just with more power on tap and the all important ASC feature which im personally a big fan of (especially mobile).

Here's a question for you. In your opinion, would you choose a Harry 2 ASC or the Intek 795?

They are based around the 490 and 790, sure different colours and some different components but on the whole they are both excellent. BUT i like the idea of the CTSS, sadly though need 2 radios to let this work well of course.

One has freq display (useful in export mode) and the other has channels, so example being 14A when on channel A on the rU band.

ASC on both them work as well as the Johnson II or the Jackson II, maybe to a certain effect a little better indeed.

What would i choose? Well Jon remember that radio is all things to many people and not all the users use the radio in the same way or for the same reasons or the same ultimate goal. The Harry2 ASC is Uniden to the core, works well and has an excellent receive, small size and the transmit is also excellent indeed.

Inteks have the higher power if needed and correctly modified by a qualified person, has the full range of export features where the Harry2 has 120 channels.

Am a Uniden man since 1977, but with the new stuff Intek has the makings of the President in PERSONAL BELIEF so i would go for the Intek.

Infact, sold my Jackson II, Johnson II, Walker and many other President bits at the moment as Intek ASC seems to be better somehow, would be nice to ask them directly at Maxon how and why, but not more replies to the emails so guess not bothered.
