Good morning all, I hope you are well. Having dabbled with CB as a teenager in the 80s, I've recently installed a rig in my van and am getting into the scene again. There is much to learn and relearn!! I've been doing more listening than TXing over the last few days, which seems to me to be the best way to get a "feel" for what's happening on the airwaves in 2020. I got a rig check last night while I was on my break at work, and from high ground in CF23 (Pontprennau, north east Cardiff) I was being picked up and getting replies from Merthyr and Ponty (thanks to the Fake Taxi Driver and Sticky Doughnut). I'd set my antenna up with an SWR meter, but it's always good to be reassured that breakers out there can actually hear you!!

My rig is a standard AM/FM setup that I bought from Thunderpole last week. A nice easy install, and checking my antenna with an SWR meter I found I didn't need to make any adjustments at all, the needle barely moved on channels 1, 20, and 40.

Listening in, there's obviously been a lot of developments in the world of CB and amateur radio since my last forway - I'm hearing talk of sidebands and folks chatting in my part of the world chatting to other folks as far away as Swindon, North Wales, and Cheshire.

I've only got a rig in my van at the moment, not a homebase, so I'm only on-air when I'm on the road. Any breakers in the Cardiff area (or south Bristol, where my Mrs lives and where I spend some time), try me on channel 19, and if I'm around, I'll reply :)

All the best everyone,

The Phantom

Hi I’m not far from you. I’m on the edge of the rhondda valleys. I’ll listen out for you.
