Fitted the Wilson to my 4X4 today to run alongside the President Johnson rig I bought a couple of months ago.

Took SWR when I had fitted it. Got 1:1 on channel one and 1:1.2 on channel 40.

Needless to say I am chuffed with that. Just need to find time now to grab someone to give me a rig check.

I found a huge difference when I fitted mine. I would give you a rig check but I think even the Wilson's ain't good enough for the distance between us :D

Through roof mount.

Easy to fit if you want to drill holes first!

Works great. Well worth investing in one.

Through roof mounting has a large rubber washer to cover the drilled hole and then the antenna body and whip simply screw down to this rubber ring to watertight it.

Another great little feature is the supply of a small disc called a rain cap so if you remove the antenna from the mounting, you simply screw in the cap to keep the thread and connection clean and dry.

Run the Wilson 1000 here and also the Little Wil, excellent antenna indeed and both work well. Just have the short silver load here at the moment to have a play with and see how much that makes it work less than the large whip

Simon,

With the little wil, how does the cable leave the mount and enter the vehicle?

ie, does it run through a door jamb?

Cheers,

Rob.

Exactly the case, fitted coax and through the door jam. Works nice when driving as cannot have a large whip antenna on the car when driving sadly

Hi All,

My first post...

I use the Little Wil on my car with a Midland 42 handy (plus car kit), works very well for its size. However, today I fitted a small RM40 linear hoping it might help me get out that little bit further and compensate for the relatively short antenna length. I will only be able to use it on the UK40 though as I cant get the SWR low enough on EU bands for use with the amp Will have to wait and see if it does the trick, will let you know...

I must say, I do like what im reading about the Wilson 1000. Considering getting one for those time when I can get away with a big antenna. One question though, assuming I go for the mag mount version how easy is it to remove the whip? (Ie, for putting the car in the garage or multi storey car parks etc).

ATB, Jon.

PS, great forum =D>

simple you just unscrew it from the mag they even give you a dust cover to keep the mount itself clean

Also fitted a 'Little Wil' to my work van today.

Runs out through a President Harry Classic and a 'little red box'!!

Seems to work really well.

Had a 'BBC quality' contact this morning with a fellow breaker in Kidlington, Oxon.

That's about 20miles away!

Chuffed. :D
